I harvested our fingerling potatoes yesterday. This year’s yield was not impressive as I’d hoped for but we will certainly enjoy them in the coming weeks. I’m wondering if the earlier planting date, essentially the earliest of our spring planting window for potatoes, had an influence on the yield. Our German Butterball potatoes have not bloomed yet and are showing some new growth. I’m expecting them to take another month or so.
Our tiger lily was overgrowing its place in our kitchen garden this spring. My solution was to move it to a home on Tepayac Hill with the other large and ranging plants. The tiger lily is showing a solid bloom with our fence giving them a nice background. In addition to the Tiger Lily, Tepayac Hill is currently home for our Tromboncino Squash, Joe Pye Weed, Black-Eyed Susans, Golden Rod, Texas Sage, Catmint, Sea Holly, Coreopsis and Caryopteris (bluebeard). We even have a butterfly bush volunteer joining the party.
It’s beautiful and can’t wait to try the potatoes!
